YETI Tumblers and Coolers for Big Guys

Short answer: for the truck, the Rambler 30 oz tumbler fits most cup holders and the MagSlider lid is splash-resistant, not leakproof. For a handled cold drink, the 35 oz straw mug is the big one, and YETI says the cup holder needs to be at least 3 inches across. For a cooler you can carry, the Roadie 24 has the DoubleDuty strap. The Tundra 45 is the all-purpose hard cooler (54 cans with no ice, 26 cans at YETI's 2:1 ice ratio). The Hopper Flip 12 is the leakproof soft cooler. YETI does not publish a seating weight rating, so we don't quote one.
Big guys empty a 20-ounce cup before the job site cools off, and a cooler with a toy handle is a bent-over lift you feel in your back. The picks below are the large-capacity YETI drinkware and coolers already on our drinkware page. Every capacity is YETI's number. We have not packed these with ice, and we do not list prices.
Drinkware: capacity, the holder, and whether the lid leaks
Three questions, in this order.
- How much does it hold? 14, 30 and 35 ounces are the three sizes on this page. A 30 or 35 is the "I don't want to refill" size. A 14 is a coffee mug.
- Does it fit the holder you actually use? YETI says the 30 oz tumbler should fit most cup holders. The 35 oz straw mug is also cup-holder compatible, and YETI's answer on that page says the holder should be at least 3 inches in diameter. The 10, 14 and 24 oz mugs are not designed for most cup holders.
- Is the lid leakproof? A MagSlider lid is not. YETI says it is splash-resistant and will not stop a spill if the cup tips. A straw lid is for cold drinks. YETI says not to use the straw lid with hot drinks.

1. Rambler 30 oz tumbler with MagSlider: the daily driver
YETI's 30 oz page is a kitchen-grade stainless tumbler with double-wall vacuum insulation for hot or cold drinks. The bullets are cup-holder compatible, splash resistant, dishwasher safe, and vacuum insulated. The overview and the Rambler FAQ both say the MagSlider is not leakproof: tip it in a bag or jostle it in traffic and liquid can come out. For a seal, YETI points you to a bottle.
Empty weight is 1.10 pounds. Size is 4.0 inches wide by 7.8 inches high. YETI says it should fit most cup holders, and says not to use a straw lid with hot drinks. Thirty ounces is the truck default. It is the wrong cup to lay on its side.

2. Rambler 35 oz straw mug: the one with a handle
YETI's 35 oz straw mug page calls it a generously sized mug that fits in cup holders and comes with a straw. The bullets are cup-holder compatible, reusable straw, a welded handle, double-wall vacuum insulation, and dishwasher safe. The overview says it is built for 35 ounces of cold drinks, with an updated grip handle. YETI's answer on cup holders: the 35 and 42 oz mugs with a straw lid are designed for a standard holder, and the holder should be a minimum of 3 inches in diameter. Measure yours.
Hot drinks are a lid problem, not a mystery. YETI says do not use this straw lid with hot beverages, and suggests swapping in a MagSlider lid if you want hot drinks in the same mug. The straw ships with hygienic tape that has to come off before you use it. The US measurements block lists an empty weight of 1.32 pounds and 5.5 inches wide by 9.8 inches high. That width is the body, not the base that sits in the holder. The 3-inch figure is the holder, from YETI's own answer.
The welded handle is the big-hand feature. YETI calls it a comfortable grip. We are not claiming a finger clearance. Our listing title says Straw Mug 2.0. YETI's current US page titles it "Rambler 35 oz Straw Mug" and does not print "2.0" in the headline. Match the listing to a 35 oz straw mug with a handle. The card photo is that mug from YETI's store.

3. Rambler 14 oz mug: coffee, and not the new stackable
The 14 oz on our page is the original Rambler mug with a MagSlider lid. YETI's current 14 oz on yeti.com is the stackable mug, which is a different item: YETI describes that one as a stackable camp mug with an easy-grip welded handle, and says the 14 oz mug is not designed to fit most cup holders. We did not swap the card photo to the stackable, and this guide does not treat them as the same product.
YETI's lid page puts the 14 oz mug on the large MagSlider and says that lid is not leakproof. Prefer the YETI Authorized offer. Some colors of this listing have been third-party offers. Use the 14 as a coffee mug with a handle, not as a cup-holder bottle. If the Amazon title does not say 14 oz and MagSlider, check the listing before you buy.

Coolers: cans-only is not the same as a cooler full of ice
YETI prints two kinds of capacity, and mixing them up is how people buy a cooler that is half the size they thought.
- Cans only is the cooler full of cans and no ice. It is the big number.
- Ice only is the cooler full of ice and no cans.
- 2:1 ice to contents is the mix YETI recommends. The can count at that ratio is much smaller.
YETI's cooler-size article states the 2:1 recommendation and prints both columns. The product pages print the cans-only and ice-only figures. Both are cited below. Neither number is a seating rating.
4. Tundra 45: the all-purpose hard cooler
YETI calls the Tundra 45 a solid all-purpose size that holds overnight camp food for four people or drinks for a day on the water. The product page lists rotomolded construction, up to three inches of PermaFrost insulation (pressure-injected polyurethane), an InterLock lid, a ColdLock gasket, and FatWall design for that insulation thickness. It includes one dry-goods basket. The capacity lines on the product page are 54 cans only and 37 pounds of ice only.
YETI's size article, using 12-ounce cans and a 2:1 ice-to-contents ratio, puts the Tundra 45 at 26 cans with ice, 54 cans only, and 35 pounds of ice only. The product page's ice-only figure is 37 pounds, not 35. We are not averaging them. Cans-only agrees at 54. The 26-can figure is the 2:1 column in that article. If you pack for a weekend, plan on the 26, not the 54. Fifty-four cans leaves no room for the ice that keeps them cold.
YETI's European Tundra guide says the 45 can be carried by one person and used as a casting platform. That store's product page lists an empty weight of 11 kg. Loaded, it weighs more. YETI does not print a seating weight, so a casting platform is not a chair rating. Seats with a published number are in the camp chair guide.
YETI Tundra 45 Hard Cooler
- 26 cans (2:1 ice)
- Rotomolded
- 3 in insulation
Heavy when loaded, so plan on two people to carry it.

5. Roadie 24: the one with a shoulder strap
YETI's Roadie 24 page says it stands most wine bottles upright and fits behind the seat. Capacity on that page is 33 cans only and 26 pounds of ice only. The size article's 2:1 column lists 20 cans with ice. A second cans-only figure in that article (34) does not match the product page's 33. Use 33 and 26 from the product page, and 20 for a mixed load.
The carry feature is the DoubleDuty strap. The same page lists LipGrip handles, BearFoot non-slip feet, a leakproof BestDam drain plug, a QuickLatch, PermaFrost insulation, and AnchorPoint tie-downs. Empty weight is 13.10 pounds. Outside size is 16.6 inches wide by 14.0 deep by 17.4 high. YETI says a hard cooler is leak-resistant, not fully leakproof, because it has to vent for dry ice. The dry-goods basket is sold separately. The Roadie FAQ says the strap comes off with a hex key, and that Roadies do not take seat cushions. Thirteen pounds empty is a one-person strap carry. It is not a chair.

6. Hopper Flip 12: the soft cooler that zips shut
YETI calls the Hopper Flip 12 the leakproof soft cooler for lunch and a few drinks. The product page lists 24 cans only and 16 pounds of ice only. The size article's 2:1 column puts it at 13 cans with ice, 24 cans only, and 16 pounds of ice. Product weight is 3.00 pounds. YETI names the zipper HydroLok and calls it 100 percent leakproof. Insulation is ColdCell closed-cell foam. The shell is DryHide, a high-density fabric YETI says stands up to punctures and UV, with mildew treatment inside and out.
The wide mouth is how you load it. The sealed zipper is also a limit: YETI says not to use dry ice in these soft coolers, because the zipper will not vent. Use a Roadie or a Tundra for dry ice, and air-dry the Hopper before you store it zipped. Three pounds is a lunch cooler. The weekend cooler is the Tundra.

How the coolers compare
| Cooler | Cans only | With ice (2:1) | Ice only | Carry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tundra 45 | 54 | 26 cans | 37 lb on the product page | Handles; EU guide says one person can carry it |
| Roadie 24 | 33 | 20 cans | 26 lb on the product page | DoubleDuty strap; 13.10 lb empty |
| Hopper Flip 12 | 24 | 13 cans | 16 lb | Soft cooler, about 3 lb |
The 2:1 column is YETI's cooler-size article. Cans-only and ice-only are the product pages, except where the table says otherwise. YETI's article lists Tundra 45 ice-only at 35 pounds. The product page lists 37. We did not pick a winner between those two ice figures.
Questions
Will the 30 oz fit a truck cup holder?
YETI says the 30 oz tumbler should fit most cup holders. The 35 oz straw mug needs a holder at least 3 inches across, and YETI tells you to measure. The 14 oz mug is in the group YETI says is not made for most holders.
Can I put hot coffee in the 35 oz straw mug?
Not with the straw lid. YETI says not to use that lid with hot drinks, and says you can swap a MagSlider lid on if you want heat. The 30 oz tumbler is the one sold for hot and cold with a MagSlider from the start.
How many cans fit in a Tundra 45?
54 if you pack cans and no ice, which is the product-page figure. 26 if you follow YETI's 2:1 ice-to-contents ratio, which is the figure in YETI's size article. Pack for the 26 if the drinks have to stay cold.
Can a big guy sit on a YETI cooler?
YETI does not publish a seating weight on these listings, and we do not invent one. A European Tundra note calls the 45 a casting platform and says one person can carry it. That is not a rating for a 300-pound person dropping onto the lid. For a seat, use a chair with a published rating.
Is the Hopper really leakproof?
YETI says the HydroLok zipper on the Hopper Flip is 100 percent leakproof. The same company says the Roadie and Tundra hard coolers are leak-resistant, not fully leakproof, because they have to vent for dry ice. Read the word on the cooler you are buying. They are not the same claim.
The bottom line
Truck cup: Rambler 30 oz, and don't lay it down. Handled cold drink: 35 oz straw mug, after you measure the holder. Coffee mug: the 14 oz on this listing, not the newer stackable, and not as a cup-holder cup. Weekend cooler: Tundra 45, sized off the 26-can mixed load. One-person carry: Roadie 24. Lunch: Hopper Flip 12.
All six are on the drinkware and coolers page. Seats are in the camp chair guide. How the numbers get onto a card is on how we pick.
